Magnolia

In the last couple of weeks I haven't had much time to devote to Magnolia, but I must admit that I thought I'd progressed further than I actually have since my last update on here.  Just five weeks now until she needs to be in the framers.  Arrghh!

Riley is due to start school this September.  Can you believe that?  I certainly can't.  It'll be big changes for both of us as I wont be able to continue working the days/shift I currently do once I'm doing the school runs too as I usually start at 7.30am.  On Thursday I should find out which school he has been allocated.  Applications had to be in on 11th December last year so it's been a long wait and now I'm nervous.  If he hasn't been allocated a place at my first or second choice school then I wont be happy as they are both really good schools.  I really don't like the third school I had to put down, and the ones I didn't don't even bear thinking about.   Apart from the 'not so good' status of those schools I didn't apply for but could still end up being allocated, things 'workwise' for me could get pretty awkward and I may have to drop hours and pay, when money is tight enough as it is on a part time wage.  Keep your fingers crossed for us!

So children are assigned to a school there?? What a totally different concept - I'd really have a hard time with that. We were very spoiled in Holland, with so very many schools to choose from. Some did have long waiting lists, but you knew that beforehand and could prepare accordingly - but most schools accepted students with only a minimal waiting list and what a lot of choice there was!!

Magnolia looks lovely.

That's interesting about the schools, unless you send your child to a religious or private school, you can only send them to the public school closest to your home. What I find more interesting is that Riley is able to start school so young. My daughter who is only a day or two in age difference to Riley will not be allowed to start school till 2012.

Here in Canada you must attend the school in your district unless you attend a private school or a religious school. That goes for both French and English schools. That is of course until you get to the college or university level.
I hope that you get the school of your choice for Riley.

She's looking gorgeous! Karan, I've noticed you prefer to stitch on aida. I've got a small stash of it here, send me your mailing address and I'll get it in the mail to you! My e-mail is in my profile.
